Bio X50 (Dawei)

Dawei Bio X50 blade was released in 2007. This new product line features higher quality wood plies and greater craftsmanship.

The Dawei Bio X50 Uniaxial Carbon blade has crystal-coated outer plies and ayous/uniaxial carbon inner plies. It is very similar in look to the Butterfly Kreanga Carbon, except for the fact that the grain is still shown to comply with current ITTF laws. This Blade is rated as OFF, and I would say that it plays very much like an OFF-. This blades is mildly flexible, which adds extra speed when hitting through the ball. This blade has ample control.

Far beyond my expectations! I really wasn't expecting much from this blade. I bought it because it had a cheap price and beautiful/intriguing look. Indeed, it is a very unique and beautiful looking(silvery blue) blade. Supposedly, it is a clone of the Kreanga Carbon blade from Butterfly. It has microcrystals on the outer surface, which makes taking off rubbers easy, and supposedly increases the consistency across the surface. It also has uniaxial carbon construction, which provides the speed of cross-axial carbon but provides more feel.

In terms of speed, it is fast but not quite as fast as i expected for a carbon blade, but that isn't a bad thing at all. Despite the carbon, this blade has fantastic feel. I thought it would be hard and without feeling, but there is a great feedback and comfortable vibration from the blade. Because of the feel, the blade gives me a lot more confidence to take bigger swings.

My biggest complaint would be the handle, which is thin and small. It doesn't affect the play, but it's slightly funny feeling. Overall, the great speed and great feel (and if you're into looks, the great look) make this blade a winner. Looping is easy and consistent, smashing feels good, serve is easy to control. Although the blocks are good, I think it's better for conter than simple block. On blocking, i usually like harder and faster blades to do the work for me, while the Bio X50 tends to excel more when the player tries to do more in terms of placement and counterattacking when defending.
