Optimum MP (Stiga)

Optimum MP (Stiga)

Optimum MP combines STIGA’s two highest-tech technologies: MP and Nano Composite.

The MP top sheet is a mixture of 50% natural rubber and 50% synthetic rubber that produces a sheet with more tension and enhanced spin. The MP (Molecule Power) system greatly increases the energy release of the rubber when you strike the ball.

STIGA has paired this high-performance top sheet with a fantastic medium sponge that incorporates STIGA’s Nano Composite technology. Nano Composite technology embodies a new mixing technique that creates 50–100 nanometer-sized grains. These extremely small grains produce stronger and tighter bonds to produce greater dynamic effect.

When new, this rubber was crisp and serving was great. But after a little while the surface starts to get worn a bit, and the crispness is gone (but doesn't that happen with many rubbers?). This is when the rubber gets worse for control. The speed is excellent, but the rubber lacks in spin compared to a good glue effect rubber, and that is why the control rating is not high. This rubber is designed to be glued, but with the glue/tuner ban now in effect, you're much better off going with a glue effect rubber such as one of the Andro Roxons, Stiga Boosts, or Butterfly Tenergy.

When the rubber was about 3 months old, I compared it with my coach's well-worn Mendo MP, and we both agreed that the MP was better at this stage!

This is like a softer version of the Mendo MP, or a harder version of the Magna. I used it on forehand for a little while to replace my Magna, and it created much faster loops, but sacrificed some spin. The control is pretty good, and it is quite useful for blocking. It is pretty much similar to other Stiga rubbers of the kind. Again, it tears pretty easy, so do not expect to use it for a terribly long time, especially if you speed glue. Otherwise, buy it! Its a good piece of rubber!
