Another impressive rubber from Palio, most people play with the cheap CJ8000 and the higher quality rubbers from Palio gets lost in the shuffle. Completely made in China, the HK1997 (i have the 36-38 version) boasts a tacky topsheet and a soft sponge. Combine w/ Palio's glue ban solution of biotech, the combination makes a very fast tacky rubber. This rubber performs so well that Palio has decided to stop production of the non biotech version of their rubbers.

The topsheet is tacky, and it's very good for serving, and keep the ball short and spinny on pushes. Compared to the CJ8000, the HK1997 is made more for the forehand, as its low throw angle keeps loops very low and dangerous. Do not underestimate its speed because it is a Chinese tacky rubber, because it is impressively fast, even more so than the AK47 i previously reviewed. Another positive note is that it is about 10 grams lighter than the CJ8000 biotech uncut (67g uncut vs 56g).

This is a great product from Palio, and there are good reasons why they charge a few dollars more than they do with the CJ8000. This is as close as you can get to a glued tacky rubber at this time.
